About This Project

How can we increase the volume of paper collected for recycling while generating social impact with urban solid waste pickers?

Faced with the challenge of positioning the Paper Industry as part of the solution to the social exclusion problems faced by waste pickers, we sought to gain an in-depth understanding of the issues faced by players in the paper and cardboard recycling chain in Brazil. After understanding the whole scenario, we proposed possible ways to reintegrate and distribute value to all agents in the chain. In this thesis, in addition to identifying the challenges and gaps, we indicate several interventions that are within the industry’s possibilities to position itself as a catalyst for impact. These interventions have direct and indirect effects on urban waste pickers, promoting improvements in living conditions and social advancement.

Secondary and Field Research, and Creation of Thesis and Impact Strategy Design

Research on social problems and formulation of a thesis and impact strategy for the productive and financial inclusion of waste pickers.

• 30 studies evaluated and analysed

• Mappings of Product flow, Financial Flow, Reverse Logistics Credits (Law), Intangible Flows

• Interviews: 23 professionals from the recycling sector, 04 Sector Specialists

• Full report with deep research on social problem, Impact thesis and a Strategic Roadmap with dozens of strategic actions that create value for the industry involved in the chain and impact for waste pickers.
